Research Activities
Research Projects
21/03/2001-30/11/2005 Work on a research project on the Influence
of East African Rift System on the Petroleum Potential in East Zeit
area, Egypt The scientific tasks carried out within the framework of
my M.Sc. thesis encompass the following:
• A Source rock evaluation in East Zeit area, Southern Gulf of
Suez, Egypt
• A Burial History of the formations in the Study area to know
Timing and Depth of maturation and generation of
hydrocarbons.
• Investigate the oil preservation efficiency in the study area by
relating the time of hydrocarbon expulsion and migration to
the timing of trap formation.
• Identify the migration routes of hydrocarbons expelled from
basins to the likely prospective areas
30/05/2006- 3/11/2011 working on a research project on Petroleum
Potentials from Source to Trap along the Great African Rift in Egypt
and Tanzania. The scientific tasks carried out within the framework of
my M.Sc. thesis encompass the following:
• Identify and characterize potential petroleum source rock
intervals, their generating capability and type (s) of
hydrocarbon produced (Oil or Gas) in Egypt and Tanzania.
• Reconstruct the geological thermal history of the sedimentary
cover in Egypt and southern Tanzania in order to investigate
the maturation level, time and depth of petroleum generation
and migration.
• Investigate the oil preservation efficiency in the two areas by
relating the time of hydrocarbon expulsion and migration to
the timing of trap formation.
• Identify the migration routes of hydrocarbons expelled from
basins to the likely prospective areas.
• Integrate all results in suggesting prospective areas for future
exploration for oil and natural gas, based on organic richness,
mature areal extent, possible migration routes and preservation
time limits.
• Quantitative assessments of the hydrocarbons occurred in the
two areas.
